Tips For Making The Most Of Our Services
Have a clear idea of your reasons for having a web presence and what you want to get out of it. Are you trying to build your organisation's profile? Sell specific products to new customers? Promote loyalty in your existing ones? Raise funds for a cause? Promote an ideology? Communicate with a group of friends? Get an investor for a venture? Too often, small businesses with very little knowledge of the web will want a website because it seems like a good marketing strategy. It certainly is, but only if you have a good idea of what concrete outcomes you want for your business. A good web consultant can get you there, but we need to know where "there" is.
Try to be prepared with the base materials. Bring to your first meeting, or send over, data files containing a good quality sample of your logo (if you have one) and text files with any information you foresee being included in the site. An FTP account can be provided for the purpose if necessary. We can also accept data on floppy disk, CD-ROM and DVD-ROM. Graphics should be in JPG, GIF, TIFF or BMP (no compression for JPG). Paper graphic samples can also be used, but this is much less desirable. We can certainly copytype any written material, but be aware that our hourly rates are higher than for secretarial. It would be more cost-effective for you to source this within your own staff and give it to us as text files.
If you intend to sell a product or products on your site, please be prepared with photographs of them, as well as technical specifications where applicable. They can be photos you have taken or photos from manufacturer's catalogues, but please contact the manufacturer for written consent first if you intend to use their photos. This is usually just a formality, but it needs to be done, for your protection and theirs.
